Zahari Karabashliev graduated in Bulgarian Philology from the University of Shumen. He began writing as a student – first critical texts, then short stories, which he published in the Literary Journal,  Culture, Art, Literature and others.

In 1997 he moved to the United States, studied art photography at Ohio State University, then moved to California. He graduated film production classes in Los Angeles and began to write dramaturgy and prose in Bulgarian and English.

Since 2014 he lives and works in Bulgaria. His play Sunday Night  won the Askeer Award for Dramaturgy and has been staged both in the United States and Bulgaria
